CDL Class A Distribution Specialist
Cape May, NJ
The CDL Distribution Specialist is responsible for delivering Cape May Brewing Co. products to various locations on campus, along with picking up and delivering to partners throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. This role prioritizes delivering the highest level of customer service and reliability to internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Represent Cape May Brewing Co. in the field of customer accounts
- Perform various DOT required pre-trip & post-trip duties such as inspecting the truck, equipment used for daily duties, checking, and securing load, and completing all assigned inspection paperwork
- Load the delivery vehicle with accurate inventory for assigned orders
- Ensure that items are properly stacked and secured inside the delivery vehicle
- Take delivery instructions from supervisor
- Review delivery route, using GPS if needed
- Ensure that appropriate and complete documentation is available at the time of loading
- Drive the vehicle to the delivery point by using the best possible route
- Deliver items to customer(s) in a safe and courteous manner
- Manage invoices and checks received
- Collect and credit returns for customers
- Maintain accurate documentation including mileage and delivery time
- Unload delivery truck at the end of day
- Maintain vehicle fluids and cleanliness
- Check vehicle for wear and tear
- Perform diagnosis and troubleshooting activities on vehicle when needed
- Clean equipment when finished with daily duties, empty and sweep truck and trailer, ensure daily logs are completed and accurate
- Communicate with supervisor on successes and struggles
- Plan and participate in regular training activities
- Conduct job duties with utmost safety and courtesy possible
- Prepare orders by processing requests and supply orders; pulling materials; packing boxes; placing orders in delivery area
- Follow operational procedures for all warehouse activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling, and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current
- Open bales, crates and other containers and sort
- Conduct site inventory control processes; ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and best practices
- Assist with product rotation
- Prepare parcels for mailing
- Organize the warehouse to ensure all material and inventory are identified and maintained according to company requirements
- Perform item and material transfers from multiple locations
- Maintain safe and clean work environment
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks in a safe, responsible, and professional manner
- Follow prescribed maintenance guidelines, including making a pre-trip inspection before operating equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Valid New Jersey CDL Class A Driver’s License
- Clean driving record
- Commercial driving experience (3+ years) preferred
- Wholesale beverage delivery experience is a plus but not required.
Special Requirements:
- Energetic, organized, and motivated problem solvers
- Ability to pass all Department of Transportation CDL driver testing and ongoing requirements, (e.g., drug testing)
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to drive for 8 or more hours per day
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, regular walk, talk, hear, grasp, handle, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, bend, and type and or/write
- Ability to climb steps and ladders, twist and turn with product
- Ability to lift and handle and maneuver 30lb cases and 165lb kegs
- Ability to use a calculator, computer, phone
- Ability to use a hand truck
Environmental Conditions:
- Subject to entering bars, restaurants, package, liquor and grocery and specialty product stores
- Working in hot and cold temperatures
- Working on uneven surfaces and wet conditions
