Packaging Lead

In-Person at our Production Facility in Cape May, NJ

As a Packaging Lead you will be responsible for leading a team of Packaging Operators to ensure successful execution of daily and weekly production deliverables. You’ll lead by example in upholding our Core Values and representing Cape May Brewing Company in a positive manner to all colleagues, guests, local residents, and the general public.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead by example in upholding the Company’s Core Values while promoting a positive, collaborative, and constructive working environment.
  • Oversee a team of Packaging Operators and act as their go-to-person when any support is needed, including providing job training and coaching with timely, clear, and constructive performance feedback.
  • Coordinate the operations of the canning and kegging lines while working to ensure all safety protocols are followed.
  • Take personal ownership of anything, such as inputs, that might impact packaging operations and collaborate with the Packaging Manager, Brewer Leads, Warehouse Lead, Packaging Engineer, and any other key stakeholders to ensure packaging processes operate unhindered.
  • Understand, follow, enforce, and continuously improve all standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in the start-up and shut-down of utilities, operations, and equipment.
  • Assist with the Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Sanitize-in-Place (SIP) of all fillers, pipes/hoses, bright tanks, and other equipment.
  • Ensure and assist with maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the packaging environment and all equipment and materials.
  • Maximize the efficiency of all operations through seamless supply of packaging materials and removal of finished goods.
  • Closely monitor cooperage quality and remove cooperage in need of repair.
  • Ensure accurate and legible coding and labeling of all containers.
  • Work closely with our Director of Brewery Operations, Packaging Manager, Packaging Engineer, and Maintenance Supervisor to ensure all equipment is receiving the proper maintenance and upkeep.
  • Perform quality inspections such as double seam inspections, dissolved carbonation and oxygen measurement.
  • Address any and all product quality issues immediately and occasionally decide to stop the packaging line if issues arise that cannot be corrected or resolved in a timely manner.
  • Keep the Packaging Manager, Director of Brewery Operations, and the Maintenance team informed of any equipment issues and assist with resolving them.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate packaging run logs and other records, including accurate inventory data entry/management in Ekos and downtime causality in OFS.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental meetings to review issues, provide feedback, and propose solutions to potential issues.
  • Constantly strive for improvement by looking for ways to make things better, safer, faster or by reducing costs.
  • Operate pallet jacks and forklifts as needed for the movement of packaging materials.
  • Perform all responsibilities of a Packaging Operator on an as needed basis, setting the example for your team.
  • When needed, assist with accepting deliveries and other general warehousing operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Packaging Operators (4-6 team members)


Requirements:

  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent work experience and enjoy organizing.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills and are able to independently prioritize your work and tasks for the day.
  • You have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • You are 18 years of age or older.
  • You are forklift certified or are willing to get forklift certification.
  • You are comfortable working in an office setting as well as a warehouse/manufacturing environment.
  • You are able to stand, walk, talk, hear, grasp, handle, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, bend, and type and/or write for extended periods of time.
  • You can maneuver 30 pound cases and 165 pound kegs.
  • You can enter and exit a truck via rear access with and without a liftgate.
  • You are comfortable working in hot and cold temperatures. Some of your work will be done in a cold refrigerator box and some will be done in a warehouse.
  • You are comfortable operating heavy and mechanical equipment in all weather conditions.
  • You are comfortable with occasionally being exposed to loud noises and fumes.
  • You are comfortable working near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic.
  • You must wear safety goggles, steel-toed safety boots, ear protection, and safety belts as necessary.
